Farah Farhanah Quinn is an Indonesian celebrity chef, restaurateur, media personality, known for her culinary television shows.[1] A La Chef, one of her television shows, guides viewers on exploration of cuisine of Indonesia as she performs simple uncomplicated styles of cooking and fresh ingredients that allows her to give a unique and modern twist to traditional dishes while staying true to their origins and history.[2] She was awarded by Panasonic Gobel Awards 2013 as the Best Presenter for hobby and lifestyle television program.[3]

Early life

Farah Quinn was born on 8 April 1980 in Bandung and spent her childhood at Sumatera.[4]

She attended a high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,[2] and then attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania to receive a bachelor's degree in finance. Her love for food took over and she changed her field of study to Culinary Arts and she completed her degree in Pastry Arts from Pennsylvania Culinary Institute.[5]

Personal life

She married Carson Quinn, but she divorced him on 26 March 2014 in South Jakarta Religious Court.[6]

Career

Upon graduation, Farah moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she took a position in the pastry kitchen at the Arizona Biltmore Hotel. Meanwhile Farah continued studying her passion by attending classes at World Pastry Championships and grabbing opportunities to study under such pastry moguls as Ewald Notter and Colette Peters.[7]

In 2003, she was fortunate enough to be invited to the G8 summit at Sea Island, Georgia where she created specialty desserts for the likes of First Lady of the United States Laura Bush and other world delegates under the guidance of celebrity chef James Mullaney.[8]

She opened her own restaurant called Camus,[4] located in Phoenix, Arizona in 2003. Camus was awarded 4 stars for its cuisine as well as many other accolades. Farah gained much notoriety for her work.[9]

In 2013 Farah created a dish for Air Asia which then available on all Air Asia's Indonesia flights.[7] Air Asia approached her with the idea of working together for the creation of inflight meals which then become an opportunity for her to come up with dishes that celebrate her style of cooking and showcase the best of Indonesian cuisine. One of the dishes was Nasi Minyak Palembang, a dish that is usually served during special occasions in south Sumatra where Farah grew up.[7]

Television shows

In late 2008, she decided to go back to Indonesia and started her career there as a TV Personality and Host for a culinary related program. Her first cooking show, called Ala Chef, was then aired on the nation wide Trans TV and Asian Food Channel [2] The culinary program is about her exploring local cuisine of Indonesia [1] as she performs simple uncomplicated styles of cooking and fresh ingredients that allows her to give a unique and modern twist to traditional dishes while staying true to their origins and history.[2]

She made her first fully international debut on Asian Food Channel in late 2012. The program entitled The Big Break, produced in partnership with Resorts World Sentosa. The show is based around underprevileged youths from six different countries around Asia who are offered an opportunity to transform their lives by learning invaluables skills needed in the kitchen. The show was aired towards the end of 2012 with coverage around Asia: Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Mongolia, South Korea and Thailand.[10]

Ambassador

Along with her career and growing popularity Farah took on the role of Brand Ambassador for a number of products in the region. Some of these products are culinary in nature, but as of late a wider segment including travel, lifestyle and even telecommunications has approached her.

In 2010, Farah Quinn was named brand ambassador for Tupperware’s premium cookware, the Tchef Series. In the same year, she also attended Carl's Jr. restaurants launching as brand ambassador. The Government of New Zealand appointed Quinn as the Luxury New Zealand website travel ambassador in 2012 .[11]

Other than her own TV show, she also appeared on some TV shows as guest star and endorsed several products on TV commercial ads. Some popular magazines and newspapers also publish her story of success and invited her to some off air shows.
