Fanta Damba (born in 1938 in Ségou) is a Malian jalimuso (Bambara female Griot-singer) known to her fans as La Grande Vedette Malienne. She began singing as a child, growing up in a family of musicians. She began recording in her early twenties with Radio Mali. In 1975, she became the first jalimuso to tour Europe solo. She retired from as a performer in 1985.[1]
