Fadilah Noor Abbe

Fadilah Noor Abbe was a Singaporean supercentenarian who died at 115-years-old in 2012.[1] Born in Sumatra, Indonesia, Fadilah has outlived her six siblings as well as her three children. Her family moved from Indonesia to Singapore when she was a child.[2] She is widely thought to be the oldest person in Singapore. Her identity card shows that she was born in 1897.[3]

Fadilah's case was brought attention to after the death of Teresa Hsu Chih, who was formerly the oldest living person in Singapore. If her claim is verified, she will become one of the 10 oldest people in the world.[4] Fadilah lived in Bedok with two of her great-grandchildren and a granddaughter. According to the Singapore Book of Records, the oldest person in Singapore's history was Yam Karicho, who died on Aug 30, 1977 at the age of 114.[5]

Health problems

In early 2007, a doctor found cataracts in Fadilah's eyes during a routine visit for her high blood pressure - her only other health problem then- but due to her fear of surgery, Fadilah refused to have them removed,[6] until her great-grandson, Muhammad, persuaded her to go for the operation.

Fadilah also had a brush with pneumonia in mid-2011.
