FDM Group is an international IT services company, headquartered in London, United Kingdom with offices in Brighton, Manchester, New York, Toronto, Frankfurt, Zurich, Luxembourg, Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai.

The company provides services for Project Management, Business Analysis, Development, Production Support, Application Support, MX.3 Production Support, Infrastructure Support, Testing, Data and Operations, and training.

FDM's clients include market leaders in finance, insurance, travel, UK government, media, telecoms, transport and logistics. Services are provided by Consultants who are trained in-house as part of the company's Graduate Programme.

History

FDM was founded as Brighton-based IT services provider FDI in 1991, founded by present day CEO, Rod Flavell. The company focused on IT recruitment until acquiring Mountfield Software in 1995. In 1998 the name changed to FDM Group to reflect this acquisition and the company began hiring, training and placing their own Consultants on-site with their clients.[1]

Since this time, FDM has opened further offices in the UK and across mainland Europe, North America and Asia.

Consultant training

The FDM Graduate Programme [2] offers training and commercial experience to university graduates. They can train in a range of specialisms, prior to being placed on client sites for a minimum of two years.

FDM's Consultants in the UK are trained to specialise in either Project/Business Analysis, Data and Operational Analysis, Software Testing, Software Development, Production Support or MX.3 Production Support.

At the company's training Academy in Germany they train in Software Development, Production Support Analysis, Software Test Analysis or Project/Business Analysis.

In New York and Toronto Consultants are trained in Development, MX.3 Production Support Analysis, Testing or Project/Application Support.

FDM funds an MSc degree in Applied Computer Science[3] at the University of Brighton[4] for selected Consultants undertaking Development training. This programme enables graduates to follow a distance learning Masters' degree while on work placements with FDM's clients.

The company's Women in IT campaign aims to promote, encourage and support women in IT. Its Female Champions initiative offers women working at FDM an optional mentor, organises events[5] to raise awareness of career opportunities available in the industry for women, and presents at events promote careers to women in science, engineering and technology (SET). Through this initiative FDM has made links with e-skills by sponsoring Computer Clubs for Girls in 2012.[6] The company also works in partnership with everywoman[7] and sponsored the everywoman in Technology Awards[8] in 2013 and 2014.

The Group's Veterans Initiative aims to help US ex-servicemen and women transition back into commercial employment with training for IT consultancy in the banking and financial services sector.[9]

FDM has a similar programme in the UK - the Ex-Forces Programme[10] - which provides training and commercial consultancy experience to aid the transition that ex-Armed Forces personnel face when leaving the military.

The company partnered with British Forces Resettlement Services (BFRS)[11] in 2014. In the same year they signed the Ministry of Defence Armed Forces Corporate Covenant.[12]
