Yevgeni Anatolievich Dadonov (born March 12, 1989) is a Russian professional ice hockey player. He is currently playing with SKA Saint Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He previously played for Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Russian Super League and its successor league, the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Dadonov was selected by the Florida Panthers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Dadonov played for Traktor Chelyabinsk in the RSL and KHL. He was drafted 71st overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and joined the team in 2009, playing a season with their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans.

North America

He scored his first NHL goal on December 15, 2010 against Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes.[1] In January 2011 Dadonov was selected to participate in the 2011 SuperSkills as one of 12 rookies.[2]

In the 2011–12 season, the last year of his entry-level contract, after failing to gain a regular position into the Panthers line-up on January 18, 2012, Dadonov along with A.J. Jenks were traded by the Panthers to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Jonathan Matsumoto and Mattias Lindstrom.[3] Dadonov was assigned to Hurricanes affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers where he played the remainder of the season out.

Donbass

On July 7, 2012, Dadonov left the Hurricanes, and North America to return to the KHL with Donbass. In December 2013 he signed a three-year extension with the club, and expressed interest in acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.[4]

SKA Saint Petersburg

With HC Donbass suspending operations due to civil unrest for the final year of Dadonov's contract in 2014–15, he signed a multi-year contract with KHL club SKA Saint Petersburg on June 11, 2014.[5]

In 2015 Dadonov played a vital role in helping SKA Saint Petersburg to win the Gagarin Cup for the first time. He set a record scored by a player in the Gagarin Cup playoffs (15)[6] When team captain Ilya Kovalchuk was named as MVP he refused to accept it and passed the award to Dadonov.[7] Later Kovalchuk in an interview said that he feels Dadonov deserves it more.[8]
