EverQuest II: Age of Discovery is the eighth EverQuest II expansion pack from Sony Online Entertainment.
Subscription model change
In tandem with the launch of this expansion, SOE also converted EQ2 into a fully free-to-play MMO. Free players were restricted in what they could access and utilize, but players could choose to upgrade to "Silver" for a one-time fee [1] to get more access. A "Gold" membership cost the same as a monthly subscription, and opened access to all pre-Age of Discovery areas and features
Features
- Access to mercenary assistants: non-player characters who can be hired to accompany the player on quests.
- Dungeon Maker: a creation system allowing players to design and publish their own custom dungeons to challenge other players.
- The Beastlord class from the original EverQuest returns.
- Reforging: a system allowing the alteration of equipment statistics.
- Tradeskill Apprentice: non-player characters who can assist the player in tradeskills by researching new crafting recipes.
