European Reference Materials
European Reference Materials or ERM are certified reference materials of high quality and reliability produced by members of the European Reference Materials consortium in the European Union .
European Reference Materials are a tool for improving the confidence in, and the mutual recognition of test results and certificates in the European market. The Certified Reference Materials (CRMs) comply with high metrological requirements, ensuring traceability of measurements results, and are the end-point of the traceability chain, thus being primary standards in chemistry.
The European Reference Materials concept is a collaboration between:
- The Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, Geel, Belgium
- The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung ("Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing") Germany
- LGC, United Kingdom
