Euro-Mediterranean University of Morocco

The Euro-Mediterranean University of Morocco (Euromed-UM), located in Fes, is the second university set up by the Union for the Mediterranean and is currently in the planning stages. After fist being proposed in 2008[1] the decision to go ahead with the Fes university was announced in June 2012. Construction is set to begin in 2014 with inauguration of the new university planned for 2014. In 2021 all structures. physical and academic, will be completed according to plans. The capacity will be 6,000 students from across the Euro-Mediterranean region.[2]

The university will be an International Centre of Higher Education and Research with a specific focus on Euro-Mediterranean issues and priorities.[3]

Educational focal areas

The Fes university will focus initially on three areas of research and education, with these priority programs:[3]

  1. History, Cultural Heritage and Civilisations of the Mediterranean
  2. Political and Economic Sciences and Law
  3. Solar energy and related fields in Materials Engineering
