Euclydes "Tatu" Hatem was born in 16 September 1914 in Rio de Janeiro Brazil.[2] He was made famous in 1940,[3] as being the Luta Livre fighter who defeated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend George Gracie.[4] Tatu helped to bring about Luta Livre's rise as martial art during its prime in Vale Tudo matches in Brazil.[4] Tatu is considered by some to be the founder of Luta Livre.[2] In the MMA Encyclopedia, Tatu is described as being short, thick and deadly.[1] Tatu and his students were described as being excellent grapplers.[1] He died in 26 September 1984.[2]
