Ethnic Business Awards
Ethnic Business Awards are Australia’s longest running national business awards program. The awards celebrate diversity and multiculturalism, and the achievements of migrants who come to Australia with a “suitcase full of dreams”. Their ingenious and enterprising characters contribute greatly to Australia’s business and social landscape. They create jobs, wealth and ideas, and cement the harmony of multicultural Australia. It is the goal of the Ethnic Business Awards to celebrate their journey.
The Ethnic Business Awards are televised nationally to every State and Territory across Australia. Held annually since 1988, they are Australia’s longest running business award on television.
Founded in 1988 by Joseph Assaf AM, a Lebanese born Australian who specializes in multicultural marketing and businesses, the awards' goal was to "recognise and reward the contributions of migrants to the Australian economy". The Awards have drawn significant attention.[1][2]
In 2010, the Indigenous in Business category was created, offering recognition for "the descendants of those first Australians – the traditional owners of the land".[3]
In 2013 the Ethnic Business Awards commemorated 25 years of celebrating the success and contribution of migrants to Australia’s business and social landscape.
In celebration of this wonderful milestone, the Ethnic Business Awards honoured all of the outstanding winners and finalists over the past 24 years by reconnecting with each of them in a special “where are they now?” project.
As such, in 2013 there was no calls for new nominations. Rather, the Ethnic Business Awards crowned three Champions of Champions, with all the winners and finalists of the three (3) major categories over the past 24 years competed for this extraordinary accolade.
The inspirational stories of success against all odds that we witnessed from each of the winners and finalists over the past 24 years has been testament to the power of the human spirit, especially during times of adversity and struggle. This year, we showcased the best of the best and celebrated their continued achievement and contribution to the Australian community.
Coinciding with Canberra’s Centennial celebrations, this year the Ethnic Business Awards was invited to the nation’s capital to host its prestigious annual Gala Presentation Dinner in the Great Hall of Parliament House on 25 June 2013.
