Estrella TV (stylized on-air as estrellaTV; translated as Star TV) is an American Spanish-language broadcast television network that is owned by Liberman Broadcasting. The network formally launched on September 14, 2009.
Programming
The majority of Estrella TV's programming is produced through the production division of network parent company Liberman Broadcasting, with some of the network's programs previously having been syndicated on Liberman's Spanish language independent stations prior to the formation of the network. Much of Estrella TV's programming consists of variety series (such as Estudio 2 and El Show de Don Cheto), sketch comedy series (such as Los Chuperamigos and Fábrica de la Risa) and reality programs (such as Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento), along with a limited amount of scripted programs (such as Secretos and Historias Delirantes).
In addition, the network broadcasts Spanish-language feature films that air during the midday hours each Monday through Saturday, and during the afternoon and evening hours on Sundays. Estrella TV offers very limited programming during late night time periods as infomercials run on the network from 12:00 to 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time seven nights each week.
News programming
In addition to offering entertainment content, Estrella TV operates its own news division, Noticiero Estrella TV, which features news content aimed towards the Hispanic market in the United States and Latin America. Noticiero Estrella TV produces a weekday evening news program of the same name that airs at 5:30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific Time and originates from Los Angeles. The network also offers a late evening newscast at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time called Cierre de Edición, which is more in-depth in tone compared to the early evening edition is anchored by Enrique Gratas (former anchor of Noticiero Univision: Última Hora). In addition to Noticiero Estrella TV, the network also produces two daily entertainment-based newsmagazine programs: Estrellas Hoy and En Vivo.
Sports programming
On January 29, 2013, Estrella TV announced that it had acquired its first broadcast television rights to a televised sporting event with the U.S. rights to telecast soccer games from Alianza F.C. The first game was broadcast six days later on February 3.[1]

Controversy
In February 2011, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) filed a joint complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in response to a talk show that was broadcast by Estrella TV, José Luis Sin Censura, due to repeated instances of verbal and physical abuse against LGBT and female guests.[20] More than 30 organizations also responded in the demand for Liberman to take action in regards of the program.[21] According to GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios, "This show serves no role except to fuel a climate of intolerance and violence against our community. The FCC has an obligation to stand up against this offensive program, which has no place on our airwaves."[21]
In response to the controversy, AT&T and Time Warner Cable withdrew their advertising from the program.[19] In addition, Miami affiliate WSVN opted to pre-empt José Luis Sin Censura, while KCTU-LD in Wichita, Kansas pulled the network entirely from one of its subchannels in late 2010, with General Manager Ron Nutt citing that programming on Estrella TV in general "was so objectionable that, at one point or another, half of its viewership had called us with a complaint. They are going for sensationalism. If an English-language network put out this content, they would be asking for trouble." In September 2011, José Luis Sin Censura was officially canceled.[19]
