Brendan Angelides, better known by his stage name Eskmo, is an American electronic music producer.[1] He has released music on record labels such as Ninja Tune, Planet Mu, and Warp Records.[2] In a 2010 review, rock music critic Robert Christgau credited Eskmo with "Just the kind of weird background music that's guaranteed to engross whenever you lend it both ears."[3]
Career
Angelides' self-titled album, Eskmo, was released on Ninja Tune in 2010.[4] BBC Music said of the album "..Sufficient mind-melting invention here – prior reference points or otherwise – to render Eskmo a hotter property than that chilly moniker might immediately imply."[5] He released the Language EP on Ancestor in 2012.[6]
In December 2013, he composed a song for a ten piece chamber ensemble called "Polar Bear and Blackbirds" and performed it live in Los Angeles with the ensemble at the Echo Society's first sold out gathering.[7] In June of 2014, he composed his second song with a 12 piece ensemble entitled "Perspective," at The Echo Society's sold out Solstice event. [8]
On Jan 06 2015 a new album entitled "Sol" was announced and is set for release on March 3 2015 on Apollo Records. "Mind of War" was the first single streamed.[9]
Personal life
Angelides was raised in a small town in Connecticut, which is located on the East Coast of the United States. He has often spoken fondly, in retrospect, of growing up in a fairly rural environment as a sort of incubator that helped him focus on crafting his sound.[10]
In 2005 he visited England for the first time on a month-long backpacking trip where stopped throughout the UK including the historic nightclub Fabric in London, Chalice Well gardens in Glastonbury and The Isle of Skye in Scotland. This all shifted his perspective on music. In 2006 he moved from Connecticut to San Francisco for the "Landscapes, culture, music, food, quirkiness and open ended creative vibe."[11]
In August, 2011 he announced his move from San Francisco to the Eastside of Los Angeles in California.[12]
