Err is an open source chat bot. It can be seen as an alternative to Hubot . It supports XMPP Multi-user Conference (MUCs) but also other backends like Hipchat or CampFire.
Traditionally those chat bots were used over the IRC networks (see Internet Relay Chat bot) as opposed to XMPP chat rooms or corporate chatrooms like Hipchat/CampFire.
It is an extensible plugin-based framework written in Python. It has been designed to be extensible easily .
History
Err-chatbot was first released June 8, 2012 with version 1.0.4.
Version 2.0 was released January 5, 2014 after two release candidates.
Example plugins
It has useful plugins like for example:
- notification of git repository changes
- notification from reviewboard
- bridge to pypi
But also more "futile" plugins to entertain the chatroom like for example:
- bridge to stockphotos, xkcd, dilbert, posters
- a tournament plugin that keep track of elo ratings for your team
