Eric Backman (18 May 1896, Tidaholm Municipality – 29 June 1965) was a Swedish athlete who competed mainly in the 3000 metre team.
He competed for Sweden at the 1920 Summer Olympics held in Antwerp, Belgium where he won the silver medal in the men's cross country behind the legendary Paavo Nurmi. This second place helped the Swedish team, which also included Gustaf Mattsson and Hilding Ekman, to the bronze medal behind Finland and Great Britain.
He also competed in the 3,000 metre team where he won another Bronze medal with his team mates Sven Lundgren and Edvin Wide. He competed his tally of four medals in one Olympics by winning the bronze medal in the 5,000 metres again finishing behind Paavo Nurmi but the race was won by France with Joseph Guillemot.
