Eremophila latrobei, also known as Crimson Turkey Bush, is a shrub which is native to Australia.
Description
This species generally grows to 2 metres (occasionally 4 metres) in height. It has pubescent, linear or linear-oblanceolate leaves which are up to 9 cm long. It produces red to purple-red flowers between winter and early summer followed by ovoid to conical woody fruits, which are up to 9.5 mm long and 6 mm in diameter.
Taxonomy
The first description of the species was published by Ferdinand von Mueller in 1859, the type specimen being collected from the Thompson River.
Three subspecies have been identified:
- subsp. filiformis Chinnock ms
- subsp. glabra (L.S.Sm.) Chinnock ms
- subsp. latrobei ms
Distribution
It occurs in inland areas of Western Australia, Northern Territory, South Australia, Queensland and New South Wales.
Common Names
Alternative common names include Native Fuchsia and Warty Fuchsia Bush, although this species is not related to the genus Fuchsia.
