Presidential elections were held in Equatorial Guinea in October 1973, despite the fact that incumbent Francisco Macías Nguema had been declared President for life the previous year. The country was a one-party state at the time (with the United National Workers' Party as the sole legal party) and Nguema was the only candidate, being re-elected unopposed.[1]
