Epiphan Systems is a computer equipment manufacturer founded in Ottawa, Canada with an office in Palo Alto, California.

Epiphan Systems Inc. markets, develops, manufactures, and supports a line of niche VGA/DVI signal processing products and high resolution frame grabbers. Epiphan Systems makes the world's only external high resolution frame grabbers capable of transferring images over the USB bus and, to date, is the only company producing external VGA/DVI frame grabbers that are capable of capture rates over 60 frames per second using precompressor technologies for image capture.[1]

Clients and integrators of Epiphan Systems' technologies include the US Armed Forces, Microsoft, IBM, as well as a slate of other high-profile organizations. Epiphan Systems’ products are also critical in the field of telemedicine, where they are used to relay images from medical equipment over the Internet.[2][3] Epiphan's video broadcasting devices have also been used by NASA on the International Space Station for ultrasound remote diagnostics purposes.[4]

Company history

Epiphan Systems was founded in 2003, the same year that it launched the world's first external USB-based frame grabber, VGA2USB, and the VGA2WEB video conferencing product.

In 2004-2007, Epiphan introduced a full line of frame grabber type devices and streaming and recording appliances that employed VGA and DVI sources as inputs.

In 2008, Epiphan Systems was named the second fastest growing company in Ottawa by the Ottawa Business Journal.[5]

In December 2009, Epiphan Systems announced the release of the VGA2Ethernet, the first Gigabit Ethernet based VGA frame grabber, capable of capture rates of up to 120 frames per second, which makes it the fastest VGA frame grabber available.[6]

Furthermore, in 2009, Epiphan Systems was named Fifth Fastest Growing Company in Ottawa by the Ottawa Business Journal, with a 192.7% total revenue growth over three years.[7]

In 2010, Epiphan Systems, together with Luxoft, began developing the world's first portal for quick computer-aided design of t-slotted aluminum frames - FrameXpert.com.[8]

In 2011, Epiphan Systems partnered with Genetec to provide control room display recording functionality to Genetec's offerings.[9]

In 2012, Deloitte ranked Epiphan the 3rd fastest growing computers/peripherals company in North America in the Deloitte Fast 500 index.[10] It was also ranked 38th in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50™ program in Canada, based on the percentage of revenue growth over five years.[11]

In 2013, Epiphan introduced its first USB 3.0 Frame grabber, the DVI2USB 3.0, which captures video from HDMI, DVI, and VGA sources at 60 frames per second.[12] Functionality to stream directly to Set-top box and Smart TV devices was introduced into Epiphan's appliances via a firmware update.[13]

Furthermore, Epiphan was inducted into the Space Foundation Space Technology Hall of Fame, through its medical subsidiary - Mediphan, where its technology was named a "potentially life-saving innovation".[14]

In 2014, Epiphan introduced SDI support into its product lineup with the release of SDI2USB 3.0 and Epiphan Pearl, a streaming/recording appliance VGA, HDMI, and SDI inputs.[15] Also, support for Epiphan devices was added to Telestream Wirecast[16] and Wowza Streaming Engine.[17]
