Endgames (band)

Endgames is a Scottish new wave band, who had some success in the 1980s with singles such as "First-Last-For Everything", "Waiting For Another Chance", and "Love Cares".

History

In 1980, singer David Rudden left Berlin Blondes and form Endgames in Glasgow.

The line-up for the band's first released single, 1982's "We Feel Good (Our Future's Looking Fine)", consisted of David Rudden, Paul Wishart, David Murdoch and Douglas Muirden. Paul Wishart played the saxophone|saxophonist on Simple Minds 'Empires and Dance' tour in 1980. The band recorded two Peel sessions.

"We Feel Good" and the band's follow-up single, "First, Last, For Everything," were released in the same year, and found success in clubs in Europe and North America.

First, Last, For Everything received significant airplay on Toronto alternative radio station CFNY-FM which still plays it occasionally on its retro shows. The success of the singles led to the release of their 1983 album. Building Beauty, which was produced by Colin Campsie and George McFarlane of The Quick.

The album spawned worldwide hit singles in "Waiting for Another Chance" and "Love Cares". "Waiting for Another Chance" was especially well received in Germany (No.21 in September 1983) and the band toured in Europe with Howard Jones, Eurythmics, and Depeche Mode. The single "Miracle in My Heart" included a B-side mix of the song "Ecstasy", was later sampled by Heavy D on the single and platinum album Nuttin' But Love and by Lil' Flip on Flippin.

When Endgames parted with Mercury in 1982, offers came flooding in from most of the major record companies, creating a bidding war which was won by Virgin and MCA in the USA. In 1985, Endgames released a second album, Natural, which included the single "Shouting Out for Love".

Other members included Frankie Hepburn (guitar), Austin Ince (bass guitar), and Dave Allen (vocals).

The band variously had recording/publishing contracts with EMI, MCA, Virgin and Mercury.
