Enar Jääger (born 18 November 1984) is an Estonian professional footballer.

He is a versatile defender, starting off at Flora as Center-back. He is also a member of the Estonia national football team.

Club career

Early career

Enar Jääger was born in Kohila, Estonia. He began playing football in local club FC Flora Kehtna. In season 2000 he had short spell with Pärnu Tervis. At the age of 16, Enar started his professional career with Flora, Estonia's biggest club, in 2001. He played there only one league game. A year later he joined with Valga, but after two seasons he moved back to Flora.

Torpedo Moscow

On 3 February 2005, Jääger signed a 3-year contract with Russian Premier League club Torpedo Moscow.[2] Twelve days later he played his first game for Torpedo Moscow against Metalurh Donetsk.[3] In Russia often played as right-back, but even in front of the defence as a defensive midfielder. His club Torpedo Moscow were relegated from the Russian Premier League at the end of the 2006 season, and he then moved to Norway.

Aalesund

On 7 March 2007, he signed a 2 and a half-year contract with Norwegian Premier League club Aalesund.[4] He played his first Norwegian Tippeligaen match on 16 May 2007, in a 4–0 victory against Strømsgodset.[5] Jääger scored his first Premier League goal on 20 April 2008, in a 5–0 victory against Hamarkameratene.[6] He left the club in late June 2009.[7]

Ascoli

On 19 July 2009, Jääger signed a 3-year contract with Italian Serie B club Ascoli Calcio 1898.[8] Failing to make an impact at the team, his contract was mutually terminated on 30 January 2010, after just 5 league appearances.[9]

Aalesund

After refusing an offer from Major League Soccer club New York Red Bulls Jääger rejoined Tippeligaen club Aalesund on 5 March 2010.[10] The first-choice right-back played the whole match when the team won their second Norwegian Cup in three years.[11] After refusing a contract extension, he left the club after the 2011 season.[12]

On 5 January 2012, Jääger passed a medical at Polish Ekstraklasa side Lechia Gdańsk,[13] but rejected the contract offer to pursue other options.[14] He then had a test period with Scottish Premier League champions Rangers[15][16] Ally McCoist was impressed and keen to sign him,[17] but the player eventually left the club without an offer after the trial period ended as Rangers failed to reduce their wage bill to make room for the Estonian.[18] On 5 February 2012, he started a trial at English League One side Charlton Athletic,[19] which was cut short due to bad weather conditions at the time.[20] English Football League Championship sides Crystal Palace[21] and Leeds United[22] were rumored to be interested in the player.

Jääger joined Aalesund for the third time on 13 March 2012,[23] after an improved one-year contract offer was made by the Norwegian club.[24]

International career

Jääger has been capped 105 times for the Estonia national football team. He made his national team debut in a friendly match against New Zealand on 12 October 2002.[25] Jääger played his 100th game for Estonia on 19 November 2013 against Liechtenstein, a day after his 29th birthday. [26]
