Emmett Skilton, also credited as Emmett Couling Skilton (born 23 September 1987) is a New Zealand based actor.
His professional career began in 2005 with a role in the comedy television series Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby as Willem Van der Muren, with his most recent television role as the lead character Axl Johnson, in the 2011 comedy-drama, The Almighty Johnsons, which has now completed production on its third season.
Personal life
Emmett was born in Wellington, New Zealand and attended Titahi Bay North School, Titahi Bay intermediate and Mana College, all in his home town of Titahi Bay.
During his time at high school, Emmett was involved in a youth improvisation troupe called 'Joe Improv' which met for classes once a week and performed live shows four times a year at Wellington's Capital E. It was at one of these shows that New Zealand director Danny Mulheron saw Emmett perform and asked him to audition for a specific role in Seven Periods with Mr Gormsby.
Emmett completed high school at the end of 2005 and the following year he toured New Zealand and Sydney, performing various re-written works of Shakespeare with the acting company The Ugly Shakespeare Company, before being accepted into Wellington tertiary institute Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School, in 2007.
Emmett graduated at the end of 2009 with a Bachelor of Performing Arts (Acting) and after successfully auditioning for the lead role on The Almighty Johnsons a few months later, he relocated to Auckland, New Zealand, where he is currently based.
The Almighty Johnsons has just completed its third season of production and when not filming, Emmett keeps heavily involved in Aucklands Theatre scene, having performed in four successful 1 month seasons over the past 2 years. The shows include Nina Raines "Tribes", a devised show "Paper Sky" which has toured nationally, and Gregory Burkes "Gagarin Way".
