Emma Rice (director)

Emma Rice is an actor, director, and theatre professional who currently serves as joint artistic director of Kneehigh Theatre in Cornwall, England. In May 2015, it was announced that she would take over as Artistic Director of Shakespeare's Globe in London beginning in 2016.[1]

Rice was born in the city of Oxford and grew up in Nottingham. She moved to London to study acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and went on to perform at Kneehigh beginning in 1994.[2] Eventually she began directing, and rose to prominence with ambitious performances that included productions in London's West End as well as smaller theatres. Her 2006 production of Shakespeare’s Cymbeline drew mixed reviews, but the boldness of her staging won the attention of critics and the industry at large.[3]

An adaptation Rebecca (play) directed by Rice is currently on a UK tour. [3]
