Ellar Coltrane Kinney Salmon (born August 27, 1994), known as Ellar Coltrane, is an American actor best known for his role as Mason Evans Jr. in Boyhood.[2]

Life and career

Coltrane was born in Austin, Texas to Genevieve (née Kinney) and Bruce Salmon, a musician.[3][4]

For 12 years, Coltrane was part of Richard Linklater's film, Boyhood. Coltrane and other members of the cast were filmed for 45 days between May 2002 and August 2013, following a boy's coming of age as he reaches adolescence.[5] He was largely home-schooled as a child, with the exception of three years of high school followed by a GED.[3]

He has also been credited under his birth name of Ellar Salmon.[6]
