Elizabeth Marincola

Elizabeth Mark Marincola is the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Library of Science (PLOS). Marincola has made important contributions in the areas of advocating for increasing government resources and public education in science, and is an advocate of open access to the scientific literature.

Career

She received her undergraduate degree from Stanford University as well as her MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business.[1][2]

Marincola was President of Society for Science & the Public (formerly known as Science Service) from 2005-2013[3] and served as Executive Director of The American Society for Cell Biology from 1991-2005. Marincola also serves as publisher of the magazine Science News and the website Science News for Kids, and authors a column on science education for the Huffington Post.

Marincola served on the first National Advisory Board to PubMed Central of the National Library of Medicine, on the Board of Directors for PLOS from 2005-2011, and as the first Chairman of the Board of the open access journal eLife until 2013. In August 2013 she took up the post of CEO of PLOS.[4]

Marincola is also a member of the USA Science and Engineering Festival's Advisory Board.[5]

Life

Marincola is married to Francesco Marincola, a physician scientist at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center. They have three children (James Paul (b. 1986), Paula Rambar (b. 1988) and Rachel Angela (b. 1993))[1] and live in Potomac, Maryland.
