Elizabeth Broun
Elizabeth Broun is a professional senior curator and the director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education
Elizabeth Broun was born in 1947 in Kansas City and grew up in Independence, Kansas. She completed her B.A. in French and art history at the University of Kansas. She later earned an M.A. in medieval art history.
Broun began her interest in museums after taking graduate seminars at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. She worked for three years at Walters Art Museum. In 1976, she earned a doctorate in American art history in Kansas University.[5][6]
Career
Broun worked as curator and interim director at the Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas campus Lawrence for seven years.
In 1983, she started working at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery, becoming director in 1989.[7][8]
Books
In 1983 the Spencer Museum of Art published her book "Form, illusion, myth: Prints and drawings of Pat Steir".[9]
