Elena Garanina is a former Soviet ice dancer. With partner Igor Zavozin, she represented the Soviet Union in international competition, winning the 1978 Nebelhorn Trophy,[1] and 1981 Winter Universiade although they never made it to the World Figure Skating Championships due to the depth of the Soviet dance field.[2]

After turning pro, Garanina and Zavozin toured with Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean. They are the parents of American ice dancer Maxim Zavozin and have since divorced.[3]

Garanina currently works as a coach. Her current and former students include her son Maxim Zavozin during his partnership with Morgan Matthews,[4] Katherine Copely & Deividas Stagniūnas,[5] and Kayla Nicole Frey & Deividas Stagniūnas.[6]
