"Electric Boogie" (also known as the "Electric Slide") is a dance song performed by Marcia Griffiths. It is best known to be associated with the "Electric Slide" line dance. "Electric Boogie" was released in 1989 and reached number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It was written[1] and originally recorded in 1976 by Bunny Wailer.[2]
Griffiths' version was actually a hit in Jamaica in 1982 when it was first recorded, but then remixed and re-released in 1989 off her album Carousel (1990).[3] The song is very popular at weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and other special occasions.
The song includes a reinterpretation of a main vocal riff ("oh-la, oh-la-ay") from 1970s band, Ripple's hit song "I Don't Know What It Is, But It Sure Is Funky".
