Offizierstellvertreter Edmund Nathanael was a World War I flying ace credited with 15 aerial victories.[1]
After serving on two-seaters with FFA 42, Nathanael was assigned to Jasta 22 in late 1916. In March 1917, he transferred to Jasta 5. With his 14th victory on 30 April 1917, he was the first pilot to shoot down an SE-5 (of No.56 Squadron). Five days after his 15th victory claim, Nathanael was killed in action in combat with SPADs of No.23 Squadron RFC and was shot down by 21-kill ace Capt. William Kennedy-Cochran-Patrick.
