Edgar Manucharyan (Armenian: Էդգար Մանուչարյան, born 19 January 1987 in Yerevan) is an Armenian football player who currently plays forward for the Armenian national team and for Russian Premier League club Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast. He has notably played for both Pyunik Yerevan and Ajax.

Club career

Ajax

In early December 2004, Edgar went on Ajax Amsterdam and even took part in a friendly game against the Spanish club Barcelona, which took place on 14 December in the town of Elche, in which Manucharyan played 14 minutes, because of the injured feet. As later revealed a medical examination, Edgar suffered a broken metatarsal bones of the right leg.[1] The same day the Football Federation of Armenia named Manucharyan best player of Armenia in 2004 in a survey conducted among journalists.[2] After the injury, Ajax did not immediately sign a contract with Edgar. Only in the summer, 1 July 2005, Ajax has signed a three-year contract with Manucharian, moving young striker to Ajax from Pyunik for 100 thousand dollars.[3]

Manucharyan scored his first goal for Ajax in an 18–0 pre season win over a Dutch amateur side. Manucharyan debuted for Ajax and in Eredivisie on 18 September 2005 in the Eredivisie Netherlands championship match against AZ Alkmaar. In the match, Edgar came off the bench for the 84th minute in place of striker Ryan Babel. In the end, Ajax suffered guest defeated 4-2.[4] A total of the 2005-06 season, Edgar played in the championship for four games[5] and won the Cup the Netherlands. He also participated in the Amsterdam Tournament of 2006, in which he came on as a substitute against Inter Milan and, the following day, he was in the starting line-up against Manchester United, playing only the first half. After the match, both Olympique Lyonnais and S.L. Benfica showed interest in the player.[6] However, on 16 March 2007 his running contract until 2008 was extended until 30 June 2011.[7]

In the 2006-07 season, Manucharyan rarely got into the first team and was getting injured too frequently and was not able to operate in the main squad of Ajax regularly. He mostly played for the youth team Jong Ajax. On 2 November 2006, Edgar scored his first official goal for Ajax. This was in the match of the 2006–07 UEFA Cup season against the Austrian club FK Austria Wien, Edgar went on the field for 57 minutes, and after 8 minutes, scored pocketed ball. Eventually Ajax scored a home win 3-0.[8] On 22 July 2006, Edgar took part in a friendly match against the English club Arsenal F.C., which was held at the new Emirates Stadium. The match was the farewell game for former player of Ajax and Arsenal Dennis Bergkamp.[9] Manucharyan made an assist to Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who scored the first ever goal at the new Emirates Stadium. [7][9] In early March 2007, Edgar extended his contract until 2011,[10][11] and in May he won his second Cup Netherlands.

In the 2007-08 season, Edgar had not spent a single game for the first team. New coach of Ajax Adrie Koster did not find Edgar to have a place in the composition, although Manucharyan was in excellent form and constantly played for the youth team, but sometimes got minor injuries. In May 2008, Manucharyan expressed a desire to leave the team.[12] In June 2008, Manucharyan and five players have been exposed to the club for sale.[13]

Haarlem and Apeldoorn

On 6 August 2009, Edgar went on loan to the first division club Haarlem.[14] The lease term was calculated for one year.[15] The next day, on 7 August, Edgar made his debut for the team in the first division match against the club SC Veendam in the 2009–10 season. Manucharyan came off the bench in the 58th minute, replacing defender Franck Karremana. Debut for Edgar turned out a failure. Haarlem lost at home to the guests with a crushing score of 1:6.[16] Manucharyan scored his first goal for the club on 26 September 2009 against FC Den Bosch. For the next six months spent in the Eredivisie championship, Edgar played 17 matches and scored 6 goals for Haarlem. On 25 January 2010, Haarlem declared bankruptcy.[17] The club was unable to find an investor who would be willing to take on the debts of the club. Just six players for Ajax, which played for Haarlem on loan, returned to the location of the club. Edgar briefly returned to Ajax.[18] A few days later, on 3 February, Edgar went on loan to the club AGOVV Apeldoorn, coached by former Ajax player John van den Brom.[19] Manucharyan's first game for the club was marked by a goal, and his team in the away league match against FC Volendam won with a score of 0:1.[20] A week later, on 19 February, Edgar scored a hat-trick in a game against SBV Excelsior.[21]

Return to Pyunik

In July 2010, at the end of the 2009–10 season, Edgar terminated a contract valid until the summer of 2011 after an agreement with Amsterdam Ajax.[22][23] After becoming a free agent, Manucharyan joined his former club Pyunik Yerevan by signing the six-month contract with a multiple champion of Armenia.[24] He made his debut in the second leg of the 2010–11 Champions League second qualifying round tie with Partizan Belgrade. Pyunik lost the match 1–0 at home, sealing a 4–1 aggregate win for Partizan. Domestically, Manucharyan contributed five goals in the 2010 Armenian Premier League and Pyunik won the national league with just a point over Banants. With the club winning the title once, at the end of the championship, Manucharyan's contract with the "Pyunik" ended, and he became a free agent again. Most interested in the services of the player showed FC Karpaty Lviv. To sign a contract with the club, Manucharyan was due to fly to the city,[25] but it did not happen[26] and the player left for Sochi to a training camp for Pyunik, which he subsequently signed a three-year contract with.[27]

In mid-August 2011, he was loaned to Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast. The agreement - a one-year lease. He played just 5 games in which he score 3 goals and provided one assist.[28]

Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast

On 17 July 2012, Manucharyan had signed a 2-year contract with Ural Sverdlovsk Oblast.[29] He scored his first two goals for the club in the same game on 1 April 2013 in a match against Tom Tomsk. Ural won 2-0, with both goals coming from Manucharyan. This was his seventh game for the club.[30]
