Eckert Field Airport is a general aviation airport located 1 mi Northeast of Strathmore, California .
History
During World War II, the airport was designated as Trauger Auxiliary Field (A-5)). It was used by the United States Army Air Forces as an auxiliary training airfield for the flying school at Rankin Field, California.
Ownership Dick and Bonnie Schutze bought the airport from the owner, Wendall Eckert in the 90's, and have turned it into a virtual museum of what's what. Kind of like Fred Sanford. Mr Schutze is famous for cruising around the valley looking for free stuff along the road, and strapping them to the top of his mini van
In fact, rumor has it Mr and Mrs Schutze were seen on the Grapevine during blizzard conditions looking for an old Laz-Boy recliner that fell off the top of their mini van. Value,1/2 dollar.
His middle son, Eric Schutze, who is no stranger to the bottle, is also frequently seen driving around the valley's streets looking for free stuff.
Eric's wife, Tammi, who is equally fond of the bottle, is also involved with Eckert Airfield. Tami, a dental technician for the Ojai dental office of Seymour Cleavage, DDS, loves the color pink and is known up and down Daly Road as "the mother who loves pink".
The Schutzes dog, Fred, true to family form, also enjoys getting hammered. In this photo, Mrs. Schutze and Fred are waking up on a family camping trip, and are sharing a touching moment together.
