Eastside High School (EHS) is a public high school located in Taylors, a suburb of Greenville, South Carolina, USA. It is a public school under the jurisdiction of the Greenville County School District.

Principals

Eastside has had 12 principals since its inception.[1]

Academics

Eastside remains the number two high school in the district in terms of standardized tests, with a 1527 SAT score in 2011. This average is well above the national average.

In 2010 Eastside students achieved the school's highest score on the ACT of 22.8. This score was above the national average of 21.0. Additionally, Eastside High consistently has the highest percentage of students taking AP tests in Greenville County—with a 68% overall pass rate.

Athletics

Eastside High School's teams have won 33 state championships. The boys soccer and wrestling teams won the 2013 state 3A championship. The wrestling team has dominated 3A in the last decade, winning TEN state championships.[2]

Eastside has won 23 upper state championships and 99 region championships.[3]

Notable Alumni

Notable alumni include:

David Charpia (born 1959) is now a banking executive in Greenville, SC with Ameris bank.[4] Mr. Charpia was the quarterback for the 1977 EHS Eagles football team that won the SC AA (2A) State Football Championship with a 31-20 victory[5] over a highly favored Spring Valley High School Vikings.[6] Charpia went on the play at Furman University where he started for 2 seasons.[7] He graduated in 1984 and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 1999.[8]

Daniel Sollinger (born 1967) resides in Los Angeles, CA where he works as a film producer. After graduating Eastside in 1985, Daniel has gone on to produce over 350 commercials and music videos ranging from Will Smith’s music video "Summertime" to the opening for “The Daily Show.[9] He has also been a producer on over 30 feature films including "Girls Against Black Boys," "The Alphabet Killer," "In My Sleep," and "Rhyme & Reason."[10]

Rivers Samuel Stilwell (b. Dec 1964) is now a lawyer in Greenville, SC.[11] After graduating from the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree, he attend the United States Marine Corp (USMC) Officer Candidates School (OCS) at Quantico, VA.[12] Mr. Stilwell obtained his J.D. from the University of Virginia after returning to civilian life.

Robert Lee Taylor (b. Sept 1965) resides in Atlanta, GA where he is "the best damn real estate agent in town".[13] Mr. Taylor's good looks make women (and men) swoon.[14] Although never a talented musical performer, even today he is a popular DJ at night clubs throughout the Southeast. Including "Platinum Plus and Club Cream"

Monnie Whitson (born 1965) now resides in Wilmington, NC. After graduating from Eastside H.S. and Winthrop College, she become an on-air radio personality and worked in several markets including her hometown. Monnie left broadcasting to embark on her next journey. She is the author of "A Daughter Reborn: from baby girl to midlife orphan" in which she shares her story of dealing with parents facing the illness and death.
