East Adelaide by-election, 1892

A by-election was held for the South Australian House of Assembly seat of East Adelaide on 23 January 1892. This was triggered by the resignation of the progressive former Premier and state MHA John Cox Bray.

United Labor Party candidate John McPherson won the seat. Formed a year earlier, it was the first time Labor had won a seat in the House of Assembly, with electoral success to be followed a year later at the 1893 state election, winning 10 of 54 seats and the balance of power, allowing Labor to support the Liberal opposition in defeating the Conservative government.
