Earlswood railway station serves Earlswood, south of Redhill, in Surrey, England. It is on the Brighton Main Line, south of the junction between the 'Redhill line' and the 'Quarry line'. Train services are provided by Southern.
History
Earlswood station was opened by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway on 1 August 1868.[1] The station was rebuilt with four platforms in 1906 at the time of the quadrupling of the main line. The platforms on the fast lines were closed in the 1980s.
Facilities
Free parking is available at the station. The ticket office is open Monday to Friday from 7 am.
Services
This is a minor stop except in peak times.
At peak times most passing services via Redhill to (morning peak) and from (evening peak) London Bridge and Victoria, serve Earlswood. The exceptions are the fast services to Portsmouth and Southampton from Victoria and those that go to Reigate or Tonbridge so do not pass through Earlswood. The primary Southbound terminus for services from Earlswood is Horsham.
The typical off-peak services are: two trains per hour (tph) to London Bridge and two trains per hour to Horsham via Crawley. Services reduce to a Monday to Saturday service in winter.[2]

Future developments
The Thameslink Programme (formerly Thameslink 2000) project proposes to turn some of the Southern services over to the expanded Thameslink network under First Capital Connect. This will see services that currently terminate at London Bridge continuing through Central London and north wards via the Midland Main Line or East Coast Main Line to destinations such as Peterborough. This however is not imminent, a Department for Transport whitepaper states only that "the Thameslink Programme will be completed by the end of 2015" and that "interim outputs will be delivered by the end of 2011",[3] leaving Southern as the main operator for several more years to come. The Thameslink Programme is centred on 12 car long trains, thus Earlswood station could potentially have its platforms lengthened as they can only currently accommodate 10 car long trains.
