ETV Urdu (Urdu: ETV اردو) is an Indian television network that broadcasts in Urdu and is owned by Media baron Ramoji Rao. It was launched on 15 August 2001. It is the first Urdu Language channel on ETV Network.

History

Urdu, the most poetic of languages has long been an integral part of the cultural fabric of India. Even the Bollywood film industry owes its most melodious musical legacies to this language. The beauty of the language and the genteel charm it evokes is fascinating. Although it is one of the official languages of India, it is still not given the literary and social status that it deserves. One of the factor is that Urdu being written in the Arabic script is considered to be Muslim oriented and in no way similar to the other languages

Establishment

India’s first Urdu language TV channel, it now caters to a large section of Urdu speaking population in India. It also aims to target Pakistani viewers as Urdu is their national language.
