EMLL 39th Anniversary Show (1)
Mexican professional wrestling promotion celebrated their 39th anniversary with two professional wrestling major shows centering around the anniversary date in September and October. The first EMLL 39th Anniversary Show took place on September 29, 1972 in, Arena México Mexico City, Mexico to commemorated the anniversary of EMLL, which over time became the oldest professional wrestling promotion in the world.[2] The Anniversary show is EMLL's biggest show of the year, their Super Bowl event.
Event
The event featured an undetermined number of professional wrestling matches with different wrestlers involved in pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines. Wrestlers portray either villains (referred to as Rudos in Mexico) or fan favorites (Técnicos in Mexico) as they compete in wrestling matches with pre-determined outcomes. Due to the nature of keeping mainly paper records of wrestling at the time no documentation has been found for some of the matches of the show.
The first of the 39th EMLL anniversary shows featured an unknown number of matches, traditionally EMLL has five to six matches per show, but at times have had more or less and the total number has not been verified. EMLL held a tag team tournament to commemorate their 39th anniversary, which concluded at their Anniversary Show. Records do not indicate if the semi-finals or other preliminary rounds took place at the show as well, only that the finals were part of the event. The tournament saw El Solitario and Ray Mendoza team up to defeat the duo of Rene Guajardo and Alfonso Dantés to win the tournament and the trophy.[1][3][4][5]
