The EMLL 14th Anniversary Show was a professional wrestling major show event produced by Empresa Mexicana de Lucha Libre (EMLL) that took place on September 24, 1947 in Arena Coliseo, Mexico City, Mexico. The event commemorated the 14th anniversary of EMLL, which would become the oldest professional wrestling promotion in the world.[2] The Anniversary show is EMLL's biggest show of the year, their Super Bowl event.

Event

The event featured an undetermined number of professional wrestling matches with different wrestlers involved in pre-existing scripted feuds or storylines. Wrestlers portray either villains (referred to as Rudos in Mexico) or fan favorites (Técnicos in Mexico) as they compete in wrestling matches with pre-determined outcomes. Due to the nature of keeping mainly paper records of wrestling at the time no documentation has been found for some of the matches of the show.

In the only confirmed match of the show, potentially the main event of the 14th Anniversary celebration, saw Gory Guerrero defend his NWA World Middleweight Championship against challenger Rito Romero in a Best two-out-of three falls match. Romero was only five years into his professional wrestling career at this point and would later work regularly in Texas where he spent most of his career. Guerrero was successful in his defense, defeating Romero two falls to one.[1][3][4][5][6]

Aftermath

Gory Guerrero would defend the World Middleweight Championship until April 12, 1948 where he lost the title to Mike Kelly.[3]
