The E-79 or VK6600(h) Panzerkampfwagen E-79 is a fictional tank that was designed by the Japanese manga artist Mamoru Nagano for the video game Panzer Front.[3] The design is remotely based on the German Entwicklung series of World War II.
Description
The construction of the E-79's hull bears a resemblance to the tank destroyer E-10. The turret is inspired by the experimental Schmalturm that was supposed to be fitted on the Panther Ausf. F and on the E-50. Furthermore, the design of the E-79's turret has elements of the camberred so-called Porsche-Turm of the Tiger II.
The alternative name Panzerkampfwagen E-79-128 refers to the main armament: The 12.8 cm PaK 43 is based on the historical heavy anti-tank gun 12.8 cm PaK 44.[4] The Pak 44 was used on the Jagdtiger and proposed for the Maus and the Panzerkampfwagen E-100.
In popular culture
Because of the E-79's presence in the scale modeling and video gaming community, it is sometimes misconceived to be semihistorical or historical.[5]
The tank design is known under different names. Zecke[5] (or wrongly spelled Zekke), meaning tick, Panther III[6] and Schwarzwolf[7] are the most popular ones.
