Duodenitis is inflammation of the duodenum. It may persist acutely or chronically.
Causes
Known causes of duodenitis include:
- Bacterial infection (often by Helicobacter pylori)
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease
- Viral infection
- NSAIDs
- Autoimmune diseases
- Idiopathic
Symptoms
Known symptoms of duodenitis include:
- Abdominal pain
- vomiting uncontrollably
- light headed (dizziness)
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is generally made by endoscopy and reviewing symptoms.
Treatment
Treatment is aimed at removing the irritant or infection. Helicobacter pylori infection is usually treated with antibiotics.
