Dunoon Camanachd is a shinty club, from Dunoon, Scotland.
History
Whilst the Cowal peninsula, especially Tighnabruaich is one of the strongholds of the sport, Dunoon has historically had little shinty played in the town. Cowal and Bute ladies have played in Dunoon and Dunoon Grammar[1] has had a team for many years, drawing on players from Kyles Athletic and Col-Glen.
Since the 1990s, youth shinty has been prevalent in Dunoon, with Dunoon & District Junior Shinty club doing youth work.[2]
The Dunoon Stadium used to host the Cowal Gathering Shinty Sixes competition before this was put into abeyance, and it hosted the 2006 Camanachd Cup Final as well. It was overlooked for the 2015 event in favour of Oban.[3]
Dunoon Camanachd was established in January 2015, and won its first trophy at Edinburgh University Shinty Club's Dropkick Murphy Sixes in March 2015. The club is working on securing friendlies with an eye to entering the South Leagues in 2016.
