Dronfield Town F.C. is an English football club based in the Derbyshire town of Dronfield. The club are currently playing in the Northern Counties East League for the first time in its history in 2013–14. The club describes itself as a "grassroots community club" and currently fields a total of 31 teams, including a women's teams, an over 35s side and 26 boys and girls junior teams.[1]

History

The club traces its history back to the 1860s with the first usage of the name Dronfield Town appearing in the 1890s. The club continued until the start of World War One. The club briefly reappeared in the 1920s but didn't last long. Another brief revival took place in the 1950s. The next attempt was in 1973 and started life the following year as a Sunday League club, playing in the Sheffield Sunday League. However, lack of interest caused the club to fold in 1996. Two years later Dronfield Sports AFC, a club fielding various junior teams, changed its name to Dronfield Town and shortly after an adults team called Dronfield Cavaliers was formed. The Cavaliers took the Dronfield Town name in 2000–01 and were soon playing in the Midlands Regional Alliance.[2]

In 2009, they joined the Central Midlands League Premier Division. A second placed finish in their debut season was them earn promotion to the Supreme Division where they finished in 7th. When the league was re-organised Dronfield was placed in the North Division. In their first season in that division they finished third.[3] The next season they were CML North Division champions[4] and were promoted into the Northern Counties East League Division One for 2013–14.[5][6]
