Dougy

Dougy (ISBN 0702224995) is a children's novel written by James Moloney and first published in 1993 by University of Queensland Press. The book is dedicated to Douglas Collins, a student Moloney taught, who collapsed and died during a rugby game. It is the first in a trilogy, followed by Gracey and Angela.

Plot summary

The story details the events surrounding an aboriginal family living in southwest Queensland, Australia. The story centers around Dougy and his sister Gracey, who has been selected for the State 100m running championships.

The story opens with a flashback to a picture in Dougy's past of him and his family sitting by the riverbank in their town drinking. A seiries of events leads to a gang war between the whites and blacks of the town. When a flood comes Dougy and his family have to make their escape, but someone still wants revenge.
