Douglas M. Leone is an American venture capitalist, a partner at Sequoia Capital since 1993.[3] His focus is on internet, software and communication investments. He was ranked #4 on Forbes Magazine's Midas List in 2013.[4] Forbes also named Leone to their list of the top 10 venture capitalists in the United States in 2001.[5] Leone also led the international expansion of Sequoia Capital in China and India.[6]
Leone currently sits on the board of directors for Birst, CafePress.com, Hayneedle, Medallia, MedExpress, RingCentral, ServiceNow and Zirmed.[7] His notable past partner companies include Arbor/Hyperion, Aruba, Meraki, Netezza and Rackspace among others.[8] Leone is married to Patti Leone and the father of four children.
Leone joined Sequoia Capital in 1988. Prior to 1988, he worked at Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and Prime Computer in sales and sales management positions. Leone is also a former Trustee of the Menlo School, an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school for grades 6–12.
He holds an MS in Industrial Engineering from Columbia University, and an MS in Management from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Leone earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University in 1979.
