Established in 1948, Douglas Laing & Co is an independent bottler of Scotch whisky.[1] Based in Glasgow, Scotland, the company has a premium, award-winning collection of brands that are enjoyed worldwide including Old Particular Single barrel whiskey, Provenance Single Malt, Clan Denny Single Grain Whisky, Big Peat Islay Malt, Scallywag Speyside Malt and the King of Scots Blended Scotch Whisky.
The company is a member of the Scotch Whisky Association.[2]
With over 65 years industry expertise and experience, this independent family-run company is now in its third generation of Laing’s at the helm and continues to specialise in unique and specialist craft Scotch Whiskies.[3]
In keeping with the tradition of the early Scotch whisky producers the company prefer to use non-chill filtering and add no extra colourings to the final product leaving them at a high alcohol strength to preserve as much of the natural depth and character of the spirit as possible.[4] Their Cask Strength Single Cask Scotch Whiskies are often described by Fred as being "as close as you get to drinking a dram straight out the barrel in a distillery warehouse".
Big Peat
Combining only Islay Malt Whisky from the Ardbeg, Port Ellen, Bowmore and the Caol Ila distillery, Douglas Laing's Big Peat Small Batch Islay blended malt whisky or vatted malt. Bottled at 46% alcohol strength, Big Peat has received plaudits worldwide including an award for Scottish Vatted Malt of the Year in Jim Murray's whiskey bible [5] and Blended Scotch Malt of the year at the world whiskey awards.[6] A festive themed Big Peat limited edition bottling is released annually at cask strength for extra warmth during the cold winter months.[7]
