Biography

Chrysler was born in Graz[2] and spent her youth in Austria. She sang with the children's choir of the Opera Graz as a child, and remained connected to the music. Chrysler moved to New York at age 18, where she worked as a musician, collaborating with artists including Elliott Sharp, and Swans, and joining the band Halcion.

She has performed and recorded as a solo artist since 2000. During this time she discovered the theremin.[3][4] She has since performed theremin at Vienna Konzerthaus, CBGB, the Roskilde Festival, the Ottawa Bluesfest, and 2011 in the Venice Biennale She also performed in a tribute to Clara Rockmore on Friday, March 18, 2011, at Frants Gallery Space in New York to celebrate her 100th birthday.[5]

In 2005 she co-founded the New York Theremin Society[3][6] with Suzanne Fiol.

Chrysler's musical style consists of both pop music as well as experimental compositions. In addition to the theremin she also plays harmonium, harmonica, guitar, synthesizers, and keyboard. Paper magazine described her as the love child of Marianne Faithfull and Nikola Tesla, "with Jane Birkin as the nanny and Bjork as the wayward Girl Scout leader."[7]
