Doonside railway station is located on the Main Western railway line in the western Sydney suburb of Doonside. It is served by the T1 Western Line of the Sydney Trains system. A station opened on the site in 1880.[1] Four tracks pass through the station with an island platform provided between each pair- one island platform serving 'Down' trains travelling away from Sydney, and the other island platform serving 'Up' trains travelling towards Sydney. Doonside does not yet have Easy Access for wheelchairs.
Doonside is the 95th most patronised railway station in Sydney (out of a total of 176 stations), with an average of 2380 passengers boarding per day.
Platforms and services
From 20 October 2013, on weekdays the station is served by four trains per hour in each direction for most of the day, with additional trains provided during peak hours; on weekends the station is served by two trains per hour in each direction for most of the day.
During off-peak hours two of these services terminate at Penrith and two services continue to Emu Plains. During evenings and on weekends all services operate to Penrith only, with no extensions to Emu Plains and vice versa.[2]
