Dominic Edward William Murray Walker, OGS, DL (born 28 June 1948) is a retired Anglican bishop.[1] He was the Bishop of Reading, an area bishop, from 1997 to 2002 and Bishop of Monmouth from 2003 to 2013.

Early life

Walker was born on 28 June 1948 and educated at Plymouth College[2] King's College London, Heythrop College, London and the University of Wales .

Religious career

Walker was ordained priest in 1972.[3] He began his ministry with a curacy at St Faith's Southwark[4] after which he was domestic chaplain to the Bishop of Southwark,[5] Rector of Newington St Mary, Vicar of Brighton Team Rector of St Peter, St Nicholas & the Chapel Royal Brighton and Rural Dean of Brighton. Canon & Prebendary of Chichester Cathedral.

He is a member of the Oratory of the Good Shepherd. He served as father superior from 1990 to 1996.[3]

He was appointed area Bishop of Reading in 1997.[3] He then became Bishop of Monmouth in the Church in Wales in 2003, succeeding the Rowan Williams, who moved to the Church of England to become Archbishop of Canterbury.

His last episcopal seat was held at Newport Cathedral. At the end of 2012, it was announced that Walker was due to retire, and he did so on 30 June 2013.[6] In retirement, he maintains his ties with church as an honorary assistant bishop in the Diocese of Swansea and Brecon.[3]
