Do I Sound Gay? is an American documentary film, which world premiered in 2014 and will be released in 2015 by IFC Films/Sundance Selects. Written and directed by David Thorpe,[1] the film explores the existence and accuracy of stereotypes about the speech patterns of gay men,[2] and the ways in which one's degree of conformity to the stereotype can contribute to internalized homophobia.[3] Other figures participating in the film include Dan Savage, George Takei, David Sedaris, Tim Gunn and Margaret Cho,[2] as well as University of Toronto linguist Ron Smyth.[3]
The film was funded in part by a Kickstarter campaign in the spring of 2014.[4]
