Dirty Grandpa is an upcoming American comedy film directed by Dan Mazer and written by John Philips. The film stars Zac Efron, Robert De Niro and Zoey Deutch. Filming began on January 5, 2015 in Atlanta. It is scheduled for an August 12, 2016 release date.

Plot

Jason's grandfather tricks his grandson to drive him in Florida days before his wedding.

Production

Casting

On September 4, 2014, Zac Efron and Robert De Niro were cast as the male leads.[7] On December 9, Zoey Deutch was cast as the female lead.[2] Casting calls have begun since November.[8] On January 22, 2015, Adam Pally joined the film's cast.[5]

Filming

Filming began on January 5, 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia, and it was also intended to be filmed in Florida.[9] According to Casting Call, filming has begun.[10] The cast was spotted filming in Atlanta on January 12, including Julianne Hough.[4] On January 14 & 16, Efron, De Niro, Plaza, and Deutch were spotted filming in Marietta, Georgia.[3] On January 20, Efron, De Niro, Mantzoukas, and Mulroney were filming in an ice cream truck.[11] On January 22, more filming occurred.[12] On February 4, filming took place in McDonough.[13] On February 4, Efron and De Niro were spotted filming.[14] On February 9-10, filming is scheduled to take place at The Grand Atrium at 200 Peachtree in Atlanta.[15] Shooting of the film was ended on February 13, 2015 in Hampton, Georgia.[13][16] After filming ended officially, it is again scheduled to resume from April 27 until May 5, cast and crew would be filming some 'Spring Break' scenes on Tybee Island, Georgia.[17] On April 27, filming resumed with Efron preparing for his scenes.[18] On April 28, Efron was spotted filming, stepping out of a police station.[19] Later, Efron was spotted filming in Tybee Island, running in the sand at a beach.[19]

Release

The film is set to be released on August 12, 2016.[1]
