Dipterocarpus hispidus is a species of tree in the family Dipterocarpaceae, endemic to Sri Lanka.

Leaves

large, oblong-ovate, cordate base, acuminate apex, lateral veins about 14-20 pairs, golden brown stiff hairs abundant beneath, sparse above, young leaves enclosed in conspicuous stipules bearing dense long golden brown hairs; large leaved spreading crown.

Trunk

columnar; Bark - flaky, light orange to pale brown; twigs stout.

Flowers

Inflorescence - hardly branched raceme.

Fruits

subglobose, wings 2 long and 3 short.

Site

rain forest canopy, along water courses of wet zone.

Uses

Wood - construction timber, plywood.

Culture

Known as බූ හොර (Bu Hora) in Sinhala.
