Diospyros thwaitesii, is a tree in the Ebony family, endemic to Sri Lanka.

Leaves

ovate to lanceolate, base acute to rounded, long acuminate apex, lateral veins inconspicuous.

Trunk

Bark - black, finely fissured strips, hardly peeling; Immature Bark - reddish brown, grapefruit smell; branchlets densely, minutely, rusty pubescent.

Flowers

yellowish-white; Inflorescence - male, 4-15 in sessile, axillary clusters; female, solitary or in compressed cymes.

Fruits

globose to ovoid, rusty dense tomentum; calyx not much enlarged, flat, thick.

Ecology

rain forest subcanopy of wet zone.
