Dillon Quartermaine

Dillon Albert Quartermaine (né Hornsby) is a fictional character on the ABC soap opera, General Hospital. He first appeared in 1992, and is the son of Paul Hornsby and Tracy Quartermaine. He also appeared briefly on ABC's now-defunct The City (1996–97). Dillon was portrayed by actor Scott Clifton from 2003 until 2007, when Clifton exited the role. He returned briefly in November and December 2007. Clifton was nominated for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series for three consecutive year (2004, 2005 and 2006) of his portrayal of Dillion.

Casting

Scott Clifton was cast as the teenaged Dillon Quartermaine in April 2003.^[1] He received Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Young Actor in 2004, 2005 and 2006 for his role as Dillon.^[2] In May 2007, he chose not to renew his contract in order to pursue other musical and acting opportunities. He stayed on in a recurring status until his character could be written out of town,^[1] and also returned briefly at the end of 2007 so that his character could attend the funerals of Dillon's cousin, Emily Quartermaine, and ex-wife, Georgie Jones.

Storylines

1992–96

Dillon was born prematurely to Paul Hornsby, Sr. and Tracy Quartermaine on May 27, 1992. His Godparents were his brother Ned Ashton and his then wife, Jenny Eckert. Tracy fled to Europe with the boy to avoid being prosecuted for a hit and run accident, and to keep Paul from getting custody of Dillon in the wake of their divorce. Paul had no involvement in raising Dillon. In 1996, Dillon comes to the SoHo section of Manhattan with Tracy, who eventually marries the now-deceased mafioso Gino Soleito.

2003–07

In 2003, Tracy returns to Port Charles, New York with a teenage Dillon and leaves him with her parents, Edward and Lila, and his older half-brother Ned Ashton for a time. Dillon is a film buff who dreams of becoming a filmmaker. He marries his longtime girlfriend, Georgie Jones during an encephalitis outbreak when they think he is going to die. He pulls though and the two eventually decide they are too young to marry and divorce.

In 2006, he sleeps with Lulu Spencer after she lies to him about Georgie's relationship with Diego Alcazar. When Lulu accidentally becomes pregnant, Dillon opposes her decision to get an abortion. He wants to raise the child himself, but eventually agrees with Lulu's decision. To deal with his grief, he briefly switches majors at Port Charles University, with an intent to become an executive at ELQ, the family company. He eventually switches back to his film buff ways.

In 2007, Dillon competes with multiple other suitors for Lulu's attention, but she tells him that they have too much history, and sees him only as a friend. He leaves town after Ned helps him get a job working with a movie director.

Dillon returns to town in late November after learning of his cousin, Emily's death. Returning again in December, Lulu reveals to him that Georgie has been murdered by the Text Message Killer. He is devastated by Georgie's death, and flies back to California as soon as the funeral is over.
